Giants' Daniel Jones not focused on contract extension amid 4-1 start

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones was asked Wednesday if he's thought about receiving an extension or new deal amid the team's hot 4-1 start.

"No, I don't think — it's certainly not my focus," Jones responded, according to the Giants' official website. "I think we're all focused on whatever the next opponent is and making sure we go 1-0 that week. That's been my focus, and that doesn't change. I think that's consistent across the locker room."

First-year Giants general manager Joe Schoen declined the fifth-year option attached to Jones' rookie contract this past spring, and the 25-year-old set to become a free agent in March 2023 has responded to that development by producing solid performances despite featuring behind a shaky offensive line across the season's first five weeks.

Per ESPN stats, Jones heads into Week 6 ranked 19th among eligible quarterbacks with an 85.7 passer rating, 14th with a 52.0 total QBR and tied for eighth with a completion percentage of 66.7%. He's thrown for 848 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions and also contributed 230 rushing yards and two scores on 41 attempts.

Jones added on Wednesday that the ankle injury he played through in this past Sunday's win over the Green Bay Packers at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London is "definitely better" than it was at this time last week. He suffered a turf burn that left his throwing hand bloodied against Green Bay but noted that he didn't need stitches and that the issue "will heal up before" this Sunday's home game against the 3-2 Baltimore Ravens.
