The former New York Giants running back and franchise legend Tiki Barber is not happy with the hype surrounding the former college-level quarterback JJ McCarthy. The NFL draft is set to begin within two weeks and the teams are gearing up to rope in the best talents. There is a huge buzz surrounding the likes of Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels are the favorites to get the first-round draft pick.

However, a new name has now emerged – JJ McCarthy. There are rumors that the quarterback might get drafted by the New York Giants. However, not everyone is a fan of those speculations. Tiki Barber, the franchise legend, felt rather frustrated about the prospective deal. He said that the quarterback is not perfectly suited to the team’s style.

J.J. McCarthy thing, I’m tired of hearing it . Stop with the J.J. McCarthy thing. His film doesn’t say he’s a first-round quarterback. His film doesn’t say, ‘I need to get rid of all my assets and go draft this guy,’ because a lot of what he does doesn’t translate. The scheme that he ran at Michigan — and maybe this is an indictment on the scheme and not necessarily on him — but it didn’t highlight the things that you need to do, second-, third-level reads, multiple combo routes that you have to get correct. He didn’t do any of that stuff. They were run-based and he thrived in it because he was good at — that’s what Jim Harbaugh wanted him to do. Barber said Friday on his WFAN radio show, via Matt Ehalt of the New York Post.

The New York Giants are already in a critical situation on the grounds of a quarterback. Daniel Jones has not been traded yet and he was set to make a start earlier. However, things have changed a bit and if the Giants find someone suitable then he can be benched. Though there are inside debates in the squad regarding his status. The quarterback enjoys good support from the team. Hence, the situation is complex.

Tiki Barber is also tired of Jim Harbaugh’s hype

According to Barber, JJ McCarthy is getting this much hype because of his former head coach Jim Harbaugh. The former national championship winner hyped him and his qualities and hence he is getting all the spotlight, is what Barber feels.

The J.J. McCarthy thing, to me, is a smokescreen. He’s getting inflated because Jim Harbaugh won’t stop talking about him. Now all of a sudden, he’s a top-four quarterback? I don’t buy it. Tiki Barber added

As Barber went on denying the possibility, it is up to the Jets to go for McCarthy or stick to their present quarterback Daniel Jones. It is to be seen what activity follows in the coming time.
