The New York Giants have made a coaching hire, former NFL star receiver Steve Smith Sr.

Smith Sr. has been working as an analyst with the NFL Network for the past few seasons but is making the transition to coaching with Big Blue.

The Giants have overhauled their entire coaching staff this off-season, and Smith Sr. should be an asset for the receiving core. Consisting of Kenny Golladay, Kadarius Toney, Wan’Dale Robinson, Darius Slayton, and Sterling Shepard as their primary pass catchers, Smith will have his hands full trying to build a tough unit alongside primary receiver coach Mike Groh.

Smith Sr. last played in the NFL back in 2016 with the Baltimore Ravens. He has 1031 receptions during his career, including 14,731 yards and 81 total touchdowns. He was known as one of the league‘s toughest receivers back in the day, a variable the Giants’ group has failed to display the past few seasons.

Smith’s role has not yet been detailed, but we can assume he will likely work with the receivers and try to help improve their functionality moving forward.
