The New York Giants are looking to bolster running back depth after allowing Saquon Barkley to walk via free agency, where he signed with the division rival Philadelphia Eagles.

New York is set to open mandatory minicamp on June 11, and will host former Eastern Tennessee State standout and current UFL running back Jacoby Saylors for a free agent visit, according to a report from NFL Insider Aaron Wilson.

Saylors, 24, appeared in 51 games at Eastern Tennessee State, rushing for 3,851 yards with 33 touchdowns, while averaging 6.3 yards per carry.

Before joining the UFL, Saylors spent the 2023 offseason with the Cincinnati Bengals and spent some time in the Atlanta Falcons’ facility, as well.

This season, as a member of the St. Louis Battlehawks, Saylors has logged 460 yards with five touchdowns on 94 4ushing attempts.

How Jacob Saylors would fit with the Giants

The Giants’ backfield, and in a lot of ways the offense at large, is in a bit of a transition as the 2024 regular season looms.

With Barkley in Philadelphia, the Giants will lean on free-agent acquisition Devin Singletary to man the top of the backfield pecking order. Singletary arrives in the swamps of Jersey with 4,049 career rushing yards and 20 touchdowns, on the heels of a career-high 898 yards and four scores for the Bills during the 2023 campaign.

Meanwhile, Eric Gray and Tyrone Tracy could also push for carries.

Bringing in Saylors signals that the Giants are looking for depth at running back, and potentially in the return game, especially with new kickoff return rules set to take effect for the first time this season.
