Giants icon rips team for 'fashion show' before blowout loss to Cowboys
New York Giants legend and current media personality Tiki Barber voiced an interesting complaint regarding the club's embarrassing 40-0 home loss to the division-rival Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night.
"I hate the walk-ins that they do these days," Barber said about players during Monday's edition of the WFAN "Evan and Tiki" program, per Ryan Chichester of Audacy. "Come to work man. Don’t come to a fashion show. Come to work. If you’re great, and you’re (Minnesota Vikings star wide receiver) Justin Jefferson, come in with a $15,000 sweater. I don’t give a crap. But if you have work to do, look like an employee who is coming to work. Not someone trying to show out for Madison Avenue."
Barber was referring to how the Giants and other franchises throughout North American professional sports routinely highlight what players wear into stadiums, arenas and other venues before games:
As noted by Chichester, Barber questioned "the Giants' effort and focus" coming off the humiliating Week 1 defeat that featured Big Blue becoming the first team in NFL history to be out-sacked by seven, lose a turnover battle by three, have a field goal blocked and returned for a touchdown, have an interception returned for a score and lose by 40 points all in the same game.
Barber generated headlines last week when he confidently declared that he would take Giants quarterback Daniel Jones over Dallas starter Dak Prescott "100 out of 100 times." The radio host who also serves as an NFL analyst for CBS Sports sang a much different tune when speaking about his former club on Monday afternoon.
"I’m just so annoyed by this team," Barber added about the Giants. "The last thing I expected was for them to look like they didn’t care. That’s what it felt like watching the Giants [Sunday] night."
The Giants will look to right the ship when they play at the (allegedly tanking) Arizona Cardinals this coming Sunday. As of Monday afternoon, OddsChecker listed the Giants as the favorites (-198, -4.5) to earn the victory in Week 2 regardless of what New York players wear into State Farm Stadium.
