Giants players alerted medical staff of poor air quality in practice bubble before cancellation

The New York Giants are among multiple NFL teams that canceled practice on Thursday due to historically poor air quality caused by the Canadian wildfires.

The Giants were originally scheduled to meet indoors, but according to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, called off practices for Thursday and Friday after some players alerted medical staff of their concerns.

The G-Men plan to continue with mandatory minicamps next week.

As of late Thursday morning, both the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders had moved their practices indoors due to the conditions.

In MLB, the Arizona Diamondbacks and Washington Nationals Thursday afternoon game in the nation's capital was postponed because of the poor air quality. It wouldn't be a surprise to some of the other 11 scheduled games on Thursday impacted, such as the doubleheader between the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees (in the Bronx) and the matchup between the Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia Phillies in Philly.

MLB announced the postponement of Wednesday's game between the Whites Sox and Yankees (leading to the scheduled double dip), as well as Wednesday's tilt between the Tigers and Phillies.

In soccer, the NWSL postponed a contest on Wednesday between the Orlando Pride and NJ/NY Gotham FC at Red Bull Arena, which is just outside of Newark, New Jersey.

Despite playing indoors, the WNBA also postponed a game between the New York Liberty and Minnesota Lynx on Wednesday.
