Giants QB Daniel Jones doing 'good' recovering from neck injury

The New York Giants will have a new general manager and maybe/maybe not a new head coach by the time the upcoming NFL year opens in March:

Whether or not Big Blue leadership believes the team's long-term answer at quarterback is on the roster has yet to be determined.

Daniel Jones went down with a strained neck during the Week 12 win over the Philadelphia Eagles back on Nov. 28 that ultimately cost him the rest of his season which, like the bulk of his NFL career, was filled with more downs than ups. Jones spoke with reporters Monday and offered an update on his recovery.

"Yeah I’m doing good," the 2019 first-round draft pick explained, according to Phillip Martinez of SNY. "Progressing and now there’s a healing process that takes time, so trying to stay diligent with my rehab and treatment with the guys here."

Jones added he "absolutely" will be cleared to participate in summer training camp activities.

"There’s no contact for me until August, so I can do everything from a lifting, throwing, running standpoint," he said of his recovery timeframe. "I’m not limited in those areas, it’s a process. I think it’s weeks, but it’s irrelevant at this point because I don’t expect to be doing any contact."

Because the Giants technically have no head of football operations as of "Black Monday," it's unknown if they will exercise the fifth-year option attached to Jones' rookie contract or if they'll either let him play on the final year of his deal in 2022 or attempt to find an upgrade at the position, such as Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks. For now, all Jones can do is attempt to get physically right as quickly as possible, either for the Giants or a yet-to-be-named employer.
