Giants QB Daniel Jones: 'I'’ll be cleared and ready to go' after neck injury

There was a concern this winter that the neck injury New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones suffered while playing against the Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 28 was worse than outsiders realized. Jones was not medically cleared to participate in the final six games of the season, and the 2019 first-round draft pick raised eyebrows when he said in January that "there's no contact for me until August."

However, new head coach Brian Daboll somewhat eased minds while speaking with reporters at the league's annual meetings last week when he remarked Jones "should be ready to go" for the start of the club's voluntary offseason conditioning program that opened on the first Monday of April. The 24-year-old offered an update on his status and, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN, clearly isn't concerned about his health heading into workouts:

As things stand today, newly acquired veteran journeyman Tyrod Taylor is atop New York's depth chart at the sport's most important position. He may ultimately compete with Jones for the starting gig as a coaching staff and front office that didn't draft the pro with three years of experience on his resume continue to evaluate him.

The Giants have until May 2 to make a final decision about the fifth-year option attached to Jones' rookie contract and are widely expected to let that date come and go without doing anything. Assuming that occurs, Jones will essentially be on a one-year "prove it" deal with the Giants this fall.
