Giants RB Saquon Barkley frustrated by continued injury woes

New York Giants coach Joe Judge told reporters Thursday that starting quarterback Daniel Jones is making positive progress in his recovery from his concussion and could be in the lineup for Sunday's game against the 4-1 Los Angeles Rams.

As with most things related to the Giants this fall, there's also bad news.

New York star running back Saquon Barkley went down to an ankle injury in this past Sunday's loss to the Dallas Cowboys, and he didn't sound like an offensive weapon who will be available this weekend as he's still working to return to full fitness from the torn ACL he suffered in September 2020.

"I don't plan to put any expectations on the day, the game, the comeback," Barkley told reporters, per Jeremy Bergman of the NFL's website. "I'm just going to listen to my body, listen to the trainers, take it day by day."

The 24-year-old added he felt like he "started getting my stride back" following last year's setback until the developments in Dallas. Barkley also missed three games in 2019 because of an ankle sprain.

"I’ll be honest, it’s frustrating," he admitted about his injury history. "It doesn't make sense why it's happening. But I can't keep that mindset. You can't get anywhere with it. Everything happens for a reason."

X-rays on Barkley's ankle earlier this week were promising and suggested he may be cleared to play in the Week 7 contest against the Carolina Panthers on Oct. 24.
