Giants RB Saquon Barkley still noncommittal about return from torn ACL

Last month, New York Giants star running back Saquon Barkley chose against guaranteeing he'll be ready for Week 1 of the upcoming regular season on Sept. 12 as he works to recover from the torn ACL he suffered last September.

He remained noncommittal on the issue during a Thursday appearance on the "Rich Eisen Show."

Per Nick Shook of the NFL's website, Eisen went so far as to ask Barkley if he could begin the campaign on the physically unable to perform list after the ball-carrier used such cliches as "taking it day by day" when speaking about his recovery.

"I think I know better than that," Barkley responded. "I've been in the NFL for a little bit now. I think I learned a thing or two."

Barkley even refused to give Eisen a definitive answer about fantasy football owners potentially selecting the playmaker first overall in drafts.

Jordan Raanan of ESPN wrote in June that Barkley may not face live defenses until October, and there is currently no indication he'll be in the lineup for the season opener against the Denver Broncos.
