Giants rookie WR Kadarius Toney placed on reserve/COVID-19 list

One day after New York Giants rookies reported to training camp and mere hours after details of an NFL memo emerged showing the league could require teams to forfeit and may even withhold pay if a game cannot take place as scheduled due to COVID-19, the Giants confirmed that first-round draft selection Kadarius Toney has been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

The Giants didn't specify if Toney tested positive for the coronavirus or has been deemed a "high-risk close contact." Big Blue added: "Toney is following the NFL protocols by isolating and participating in meetings remotely."

The Giants traded with the Chicago Bears on the opening night of the draft to move down before acquiring the Florida Gators star receiver with the 20th pick.

Earlier in the day, NFL Media's Judy Battista reported that 14 clubs had reached the 85% COVID-19 vaccination threshold that allows for the loosening of some health and safety protocols. The Athletic's Dan Duggan reported July 12 the Giants hadn't yet hit the 85% mark back when only seven teams had crossed that threshold.
