Giants to play both Jake Fromm, Mike Glennon vs. Bears

The New York Giants sit at 4-11 coming off this past Sunday's blowout loss to the rival Philadelphia Eagles and, thus, won't participate in the upcoming postseason tournament. With starting quarterback Daniel Jones shut down for the remainder of the campaign due to a strained neck, New York head coach Joe Judge went with 2020 fifth-round draft pick Jake Fromm over veteran journeyman Mike Glennon as his QB1 against Philadelphia. Fromm completed only 6-of-17 passes for 25 yards and an interception before he was replaced by Glennon the day after Christmas.

It appears Judge and company haven't yet seen enough of either healthy signal-caller.

Per Chase Goodbread of the NFL's website, Judge told reporters Wednesday that both Fromm and Glennon will take snaps during this coming Sunday's showdown at the 5-10 Chicago Bears. The two quarterbacks will compete during practice sessions for the right to start that game under center.

"The expectations and the competitiveness, that doesn't change. We're not negotiating or compromising our standards around here," Judge said about the notion the Giants should just play Fromm to treat Weeks 17 and 18 like glorified exhibition matchups. "Everything is important, it's the National Football League. ... There's no such thing as a meaningless game. There's wasted effort. There's wasted preparation, but there are no meaningless games."

Fromm joined the Giants when he was signed off the practice squad of the Buffalo Bills on Dec. 1 and, theoretically, deserves additional first-team reps over New York's final eight quarters of action considering Glennon clearly isn't a long-term answer at the position. Then again, some would say Fromm barely looked like a legitimate backup option against the Eagles and that the Giants already know what they have and, more importantly, don't have in the 23-year-old.
