Giants' Tommy DeVito expands on benefit of living with parents

The story of New York Giants undrafted rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito went viral when it was revealed this past fall that he still lives with his parents.

DeVito recently spoke with Ryan Gaydos of Fox News about how his living situation helped him during what became an unexpected rise to fame.

"Me living at home was a big aspect, especially right now," DeVito noted. "They were really able to take a lot off my shoulders, and that aspect really just let me focus on football and enjoying that time and really be able to enjoy that experience and not feel like it was overwhelming in any way, shape or form."

DeVito began the season on the practice squad but was called into action after Week 1 starter Daniel Jones and primary backup Tyrod Taylor went down with injuries. The native of Cedar Grove, New Jersey quickly became a fan favorite and a local celebrity who made numerous public appearances after he won three of four starts.

However, DeVito was later benched during New York's Christmas Day loss at the Philadelphia Eagles. He ended the campaign with a 3-3 record as a starter.

"It was good, but it was good because I have a small circle," DeVito added about continuing to live at home throughout what he previously referred to as "a roller coaster" of a season. "My family, my friends, my teammates really helped guide me through it all. Obviously, I’ve never been a part of something as crazy as this happened, especially with how fast it happened. Marketing team, agents, they did a great job handling a lot of that."

In total, DeVito completed 114 of 178 (64.0%) passes for 1,101 yards with eight touchdowns and three interceptions. He added 195 rushing yards and a score on 36 carries.

Jones' four-year contract that he signed in March 2023 will likely keep him on New York's roster through all of 2024 but won't necessarily prevent Giants general manager Joe Schoen from selecting a quarterback in the first round of this year's draft.

DeVito's future with the Giants is uncertain, but he should receive an opportunity to compete for a backup job with an NFL franchise later this year.
