Giants' Tyrod Taylor reveals injury details, reacts to coach's QB decision

Tyrod Taylor said Tuesday that he's "disappointed" he isn't coming back as the New York Giants starting quarterback in his return from injury.

The one-time Pro Bowler hasn't played since suffering a rib cage injury against the New York Jets in Week 8 but was designated for return from injured reserve on Monday. Taylor gave details regarding the rib issue on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old is expected to serve as the backup to undrafted rookie signal-caller Tommy DeVito when the Giants host the Green Bay Packers on "Monday Night Football" in Week 14.

Primary starter Daniel Jones is out for the rest of the season with a torn ACL that he suffered in Week 9 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

DeVito has started New York's last three contests and helped lead them to victories in Weeks 11 and 12 before their Week 13 bye. The back-to-back wins have kept the Giants playoff chances on life support with a 4-8 record, as the ESPN Football Power Index gives Big Blue a 0.1% chance to make the tournament.

The Carolina Panthers (1-11) are the only NFL team that has been officially eliminated from the playoff picture entering Week 14.

Prior to going down with his rib cage issue against Gang Green, Taylor had completed 57 of his 87 pass attempts (65.5%) for 579 passing yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions across seven games (three starts), while adding 22 carries for 98 rushing yards.

DeVito has played five games and made three starts, going 66-for-105 (62.9%) for 697 passing yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions, while adding 83 rushing yards and one score via 21 carries.

The duo's quarterback ratings are nearly identical, with the rookie recording a 92.4 thus far and the veteran posting a 92.1.
