Gisele Bündchen congratulates husband Tom Brady on retirement

Fans could see and hear the figurative writing on the wall when quarterback Tom Brady told close friend and broadcaster Jim Gray on the Jan. 24 edition of their "Let's Go!" podcast he wanted to spend time with Gisele Bündchen, his wife, and his children before announcing his plans for beyond the NFL season that will conclude with Super Bowl LVI on Feb. 13.

Brady confirmed expected news when he announced Tuesday morning that he was retiring a seven-time Super Bowl champion, and Gisele offered a heartfelt response via Instagram.

"I’m so proud of you, and of everything you have had to overcome physically and emotionally over the years," Gisele wrote in the post. "I am in awe of your dedication, and of everything you have achieved. You love what you do, and you leave behind a legacy that is a beautiful example for future generations.

"You are the most dedicated, focused and mentally tough person I have ever met. You never once complained over the years about all the bruises and aches and pains. You just kept focusing on your goal to go out there and be the best leader there was to all your teammates."

Two Mondays ago, Brady admitted to Gray that it "pained" Gisele to watch her 44-year-old husband get hit by pass-rushers during games.

"And she deserves what she needs from me as a husband and my kids deserve what they need from me as a dad," Brady added during those comments.

As noted by the NFL's website, Brady dedicated a portion of his retirement statement to his wife and kids.

"And lastly to my wife, Gisele, and my children Jack, Benny and Vivi. You are my inspiration," Brady wrote. "Our family is my greatest achievement. I always came off the field and home to the most loving and supportive wife who has done EVERYTHING for our family to allow me to focus on my career. Her selflessness allowed me to reach new heights professionally, and I am beyond words what you mean to me and our family. Te amo amor da minha vida."
