The Kansas City Chiefs have made two trades in the 2024 NFL draft, moving up to secure their guys in both the first and second rounds.

The first time around they grabbed WR Xavier Worthy to fill their biggest position of need. Now, they moved up with the San Francisco 49ers to fill what was arguably their second-largest position of need with BYU LT Kingsley Suamataia

Grading the Chiefs-49ers trade

Chiefs Grade: B+

The  49ers sent K.C. pick Nos. 63 and 211 (sixth) for pick Nos. 64 and 173 (fifth) from the Chiefs. I don't know if Kansas City really needed to move up here, but they clearly felt they had to move up a single slot to secure their guy. I'm not going to knock them too much from that. Pick No. 63 also has some significance for the Chiefs because they've made several picks there and they've all been hits (Creed Humphrey, Willie Gay Jr., Juan Thornhill, and Travis Kelce).

The best part about this trade is just the sheer value of it. There was a lot of chatter leading up to Round 1 of the 2024 NFL draft that Suamataia could sneak into the end of the first round, at pick No. 32 for the Chiefs. That, of course, didn't happen. However, getting your potential left tackle of the future on Day 2 is nothing to be disappointed about.

Consider that Suamataia is just 21 years old and plays a premium position in the NFL. This has the potential to be one of the better moves the franchise has made during the Patrick Mahomes era should it pan out.
