Over the first three weeks of the season, Jordan Love was making Green Bay Packers fans forget about Aaron Rodgers.

The young quarterback led the Packers to a 2-1 record over their first three games, capping the run by orchestrating a thrilling come-from-behind victory over the New Orleans Saints.

During that span, Love threw seven touchdown passes and just one interception, and while there were clearly some growing pains, the future looked bright for the 24-year-old.

Fast forward to now, and the Love fan club has shrunk considerably.

The Utah State product has labored mightily over his last couple of contests, totaling one touchdown and five picks in a pair of Green Bay losses. Most recently, Love went 16-for-30 with three interceptions in a listless Week 5 defeat at the hands of the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Packers had a bye in Week 6, so fans and media pundits have had plenty of time to ponder the future of their new signal-caller.

Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report thinks Green Bay should seriously consider benching Love if his struggles continue, particularly if the Packers fall out of the playoff picture in the coming weeks.

While Green Bay’s only other option is fifth-round pick Sean Clifford, Gagnon thinks that giving Clifford a look may be worth a shot later on in the season as the Packers continue to evaluate their options under center.

Love is under contract through next season, so Green Bay could opt to see what Clifford has and then potentially give Love another shot in 2024 if things with Clifford don’t work out.

The Packers originally selected Love with the 26th overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft. He served as Rodgers’ backup for four years and made 10 appearances and one start during that time period.

Jordan Love and Green Bay will try to get back on track when they battle the struggling Denver Broncos next Sunday.
