Greg Olsen 'can live with' losing main Fox job to Tom Brady

As Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk previously explained, Kevin Burkhardt and former player Greg Olsen are set to be Fox’s No. 1 broadcast crew for NFL games during the upcoming season. Olsen already understands he's holding the gig only temporarily, though, as he will eventually be replaced by current Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady whenever Brady retires from playing and decides he's ready to make his anticipated move to the booth. 

According to Darren Hartwell of NBC Sports Boston, Olsen spoke on Wednesday's edition of the "Pardon My Take" podcast about how it feels knowing the G.O.A.T. will take his chair at some point down the road. 

"All along, we thought we were in the mix and we had good dialogue. Obviously, they weren’t going to tell us exactly what was going on behind the scenes," Olsen remarked during the conversation. 

"We had heard the same rumors everybody else did and we were trying to make sense of it all. When the news came, it was like you just said: If it was someone else -- like if I got jumped by someone else, sure, I would’ve wanted to burn the city to the ground, right? I would have been pissed and whatever.

"But when you lose out on Tom Brady, it’s like, 'This sucks. At least he doesn’t take the job now; maybe I can have my time in the sun and keep his seat warm until he gets there.' But yeah, if you’re going to lose, at least lose to him. I can at least live with the only person in the world who beat me out was Tom Brady. I can live with that."

Interestingly, it was learned last week that Burkhardt and Olsen could be joined by none other than Brady for Fox's Super Bowl LVII coverage if the Buccaneers aren't playing on the final Sunday of the postseason. Fox could also have Brady serve as an in-studio analyst before and/or after the game.
