PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Gunner Olszewski was injured late in the first quarter of his team’s game against the Cleveland Browns on Monday Night Football.

The Steelers announced that he has a concussion and will not return to play.

Olszewski was injured on the Steelers’ final offensive play of the first quarter, when he caught a pass from Kenny Pickett and was hit in the chin and chest by Browns cornerback Denzel Ward.

He sought treatment in the medical tent on the Pittsburgh sideline, but was quickly taken to the Steelers locker room.

The Steelers receiver, who drew into the starting lineup thanks to injuries to Dionate Johnson and Anthony McFarland, had a rough start.

He botched a kickoff return, catching a Dustin Hopkins kick at the Steelers’ 10-yard line that was about to go out of bounds, costing his team 30 yards.

Olszewski fumbled on the play he was hit, and the Browns recovered, leading to their second score of the game. He finished with one catch for zero yards and one kickoff return for zero yards.

He had five catches for 53 yards and eight carries for 39 yards for Pittsburgh last season, but was not dressed in the opener this year.

With Calvin Austin III already in the starting lineup, Miles Boykin, who mostly plays special teams, is the only backup wide receiver remaining available to the team. Dez Fitzpatrick was a healthy scratch.
