Hall of Famer Drew Pearson's advice to Cowboys: Sign Cam Newton or Colin Kaepernick

Pro Hall of Famer Drew Pearson, a former Dallas star, said the QB-needy Cowboys should consider signing veteran quarterback Cam Newton or Colin Kaepernick.

In Week 1, Dallas lost starting QB Dak Prescott for four to six weeks with an injury to his right thumb. Inexperienced Cooper Rush will start in his place.

“They gotta pull out all stops, call Cam, call Kaepernick, call anybody out there. I used to be a quarterback, I threw three touchdowns in the NFL. Call me,” Pearson told TMZ Sports.

Pearson is 71 and unlikely to take snaps in the NFL anytime soon.

Kaepernick led the 49ers to a Super Bowl in the 2012 season. However, he hasn’t played in the NFL since  2016. In March, he worked out for the Raiders, who did not sign him.

The first half of Newton’s career was spectacular. He earned league MVP in 2015 and has made three Pro Bowls. But he has struggled in the second half of his career. Newton started five games last season for the Carolina Panthers -- all losses.

Kaepernick and Newton, however, have more starting experience than the team's current options. Rush and Will Grier, the Cowboys' other QB, have combined for three starts in the NFL.
