Baltimore Ravens safety Geno Stone (26) David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

HC John Harbaugh praises Ravens DB who leads NFL in INTs

The Baltimore Ravens have seen several injuries to key players through the first six weeks of the season. However, one of their veterans has surpassed expectations since his number was called.

"[Geno Stone] takes care of the details on a day-to-day basis, comes to work every day, does his best, doesn't complain," head coach John Harbaugh told reporters. "Then when his opportunity comes, he's prepared and makes the most of it. It's just great to see."

Stone has continued to step up in the absence of veteran safety Marcus Williams, who sustained a hamstring injury Sunday and continues to heal from a pectoral injury he suffered in Week 2.

The former seventh-round pick has impressed, tied for the most interceptions (three) in the league. He also has 26 tackles and a career-high three passes defensed just a month and a half into the year.

Baltimore will continue leaning on Stone as it seems the team will be without Williams for the near future.

"I hate it for Marcus. It's challenging. It's how it goes sometimes," Harbaugh said. "Not a long-term hamstring but hamstrings are finicky. So, it's not going to be a couple of days. It's gonna be week-to-week probably. I think he's going to be real iffy for this week, and then after that, we'll see where it goes."

Stone has been one of the most underrated players, not only on the Ravens, but in the league this season.

It's certainly been quite the redemption story for the 24-year-old after he was waived by Baltimore twice during his rookie season in 2020. He was even claimed off waivers by the Texans once but found his way back on the Ravens roster a few months later.

Stone will need to continue playing at a high level in Week 7 as Baltimore hosts the Lions (5-1), who are passing for the fourth-most yards per game (259.5) in the league.
