HC Matt LaFleur ironically compares Romeo Doubs to former Packers star WR

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur spent much of his time at the NFL annual meetings projecting the imagine of a cool, calm and collected leader. He didn't want to get into the franchise's Aaron Rodgers drama and made sure to both pump up Jordan Love while temper expectations on the young quarterback who will succeed back-to-back Hall of Famers.

Those are the thoughts of a coach who doesn't want to rock the boat right now, because it has been moving plenty in Green Bay. With that backdrop, it's worth noting that LaFleur did start the hype train for one of young up-and-comers on his team not named Love, though.

“I want to temper this comparison, but he’s got some Davante Adams-type movement skills,” LaFleur said of soon to be second-year wide receiver Romeo Doubs, per Packers Wire's Brandon Carwile. "Now, he’s got to learn how to use it and how to harness that, but he’s got that twitch that you’re looking for. I don’t think there’s a route that he won’t be able to run, we’re just going to have to give him enough reps where he can continue his progression."

The Packers selected Doubs in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Nevada. Although he started off the season strong and looked like a potential steal, it was second-round pick Christian Watson who ended up exploding onto the scene and stealing the show halfway through the season when he got healthy and finally developed chemistry with Rodgers.

Watson played in just 14 games, but snagged 41 catches for 611 yards and seven touchdowns. He had two multiple-touchdown games and went on a midseason run that saw him catch a touchdown in four straight contests.

The Packers are hoping Watson will be their superstar moving forward, but LaFleur comparing Doubs to one of the franchise's all-time great receivers in Davante Adams means that the organization is more than excited for his future as well.

"He’s one of the first guys in the building and one of the last to leave,” LaFleur said of the young receiver.

At 6-foot-2, 204 pounds with a blend of elite athleticism in open space and over-the-top speed, Doubs caught 42 passes for 425 yards and three touchdowns as a rookie, averaging 10.1 yards per grab.
