Derek Carr's supporting cast mischaracterizes his legacy.
According to CBS Sports, Carr has never played with a defense ranked above No.20 in nine seasons. "That seems bad," says the Instagram caption.
It's not as if Carr is slacking. He's the franchise's all-time leader in touchdown passes (204). The Raiders' passing offense ranked in the top 10 two of the past three seasons.
Despite Carr's consistency, the Raiders achieved historic lows.
"A study last season showed Carr getting worse support from his own defense and special teams than any of 41 quarterbacks with at least three seasons as a starter over the past decade," writes The Athletic's Mike Sando.
Six head coaches in nine seasons makes matters worse. The lack of stability at this position, as well as the underwhelming supporting cast, explain Carr's 59-76 starting record, for which he received most of the blame.
"Carr has been an easy target for some of the crazy stuff there," a defensive coach told Sando.
Several fans have scapegoated Carr for the team's struggles this year.
Although some would argue his inability to overcome Las Vegas' woes, proves he's not elite like Tom Brady, poor franchises drag good quarterbacks down. Perhaps that's the case for Carr.
