History says Jalen Ramsey will bring Lombardi Trophy to South Beach

The Miami Dolphins made a huge splash on Sunday, acquiring All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams. The move to add Ramsey will bolster the Dolphins' defense, to start with, but if history repeats, it'll result in a win for Miami in Super Bowl LVII next February, too.

According to ESPN Stats and Info, Ramsay is only the fourth defensive back in NFL history to earn three first-team All-Pro nods playing for three different teams before the age of 30. The other three (Deion Sanders, Tyrann Mathieu and Darrell Revis) won the Super Bowl in their respective first seasons with their new teams.

If history is to echo once more, though, Miami figures to have some work to do in free agency and during April's NFL Draft. Even after pulling off Sunday's blockbuster move, the Dolphins' Super Bowl odds have yet to immediately budge in any significant way. According to Oddschecker, the Dolphins have the 12th-best odds (+3500) to win the Super Bowl.

We will have to wait and see whether the above bit of historical trivia plays out once more, but regardless, Ramsey should have an immediate impact on the field for Miami, especially in the tough AFC East. Playing against Josh Allen and potentially Aaron Rodgers twice next season becomes just a little more easy for the Dolphins (relatively speaking) with Ramsey in the fold.

A genuine shut-down corner, Ramsey made his sixth consecutive Pro Bowl while suiting up with the Rams last season, recording 88 tackles, four interceptions, two sacks and 18 pass defenses over the course of 17 games played.
