The Houston Texans have signed tight end Nick Vannett, according to a report from Aaron Wilson of KRPC 2 Houston. He is the second tight end the Texans have added to the roster in as many days after signing Dalton Keene on Tuesday.

Vannett most recently played for the New York Giants and New Orleans Saints this past season, recording a combined six catches for 55 yards. His signing with the Texans marks his sixth team that he will play for as he enters the eighth season of his NFL career.

A former third-round pick out of Ohio State, Vannett played his first three seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. He had the best season of his career in 2018, finishing with 29 catches for 269 yards and three touchdowns. The Seahawks traded him to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2019 and he appeared in 13 games with 13 catches for 128 yards.

Vannett has also spent one season with the Denver Broncos in 2020. He has a total of 90 catches for 874 yards and six touchdowns throughout his career.

Vannett is set to join a Texans tight end room led by Dalton Schultz, who comes to Houston after five seasons with the Dallas Cowboys. With tight end Teagan Quitoriano on the PUP list and Brevin Jordan dealing with a strained hamstring, Vannett will bring much needed depth behind Schultz.

Houston is coming off of a 3-13 finish to this past season and added top five picks CJ Stroud and Will Anderson in the NFL Draft. The Texans kick off the preseason in a little more than a week on Aug. 10 against the Patriots.

Texans coach DeMeco Ryans shares what stands out about CJ Stroud

Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud has not had many reps yet in fall camp as it has only just begun but he is already doing some things to stand out to head coach DeMeco Ryans.

Ryans told the media recently what has stuck out to him so far about the No. 2 pick in this this year’s NFL Draft.

“The thing that has impressed me the most is his dedication to being as best as he could possibly be,” Ryans said. “He puts the work — and not only when he’s here, of course — everybody does that. That’s given. But what you see about CJ, the work that and the preparation that he does when he’s not here. He’s a true football junkie. He loves football, always watching football, always asking for extra cut-ups from our coaches. I’m just impressed with the mental part of him and just how much he loves the game of football.”
