How the San Francisco 49ers arrived at Super Bowl LIV

The San Francisco 49ers have had an incredible turnaround in 2019, going from 4-12 last season to NFC champs. Here's a look at how they got this far.

Week 1: 49ers 31, Buccaneers 17

San Francisco opened its season with a big win on the road after scoring 25 points in the second half. The 49ers defense picked off Jameis Winston three times and also recovered one fumble.

Week 2: 49ers 41, Bengals 17

The 49ers had no problem taking care of the Bengals in Week 2, as Jimmy Garoppolo threw three touchdowns. Matt Breida also had a big day on the ground with 12 carries for 121 yards.

Week 3: 49ers 24, Steelers 20

The 49ers' home opener wasn't pretty, but they emerged victorious after a late touchdown pass from Jimmy Garoppolo to Dante Pettis. The 49ers also held Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph to only 174 yards passing.

Week 5: 49ers 31, Browns 3

San Francisco shined coming off the bye, dominating the Browns offense. Cleveland put up only 180 yards, and the 49ers forced four turnovers. Also, Jimmy Garoppolo threw two touchdowns.

Week 6: 49ers 20, Rams 7

San Francisco started to establish itself as the class of the NFC West with a big road win vs. the Rams. Jared Goff was held to only 78 yards passing, and George Kittle starred with eight receptions for 103 yards.

The 49ers got a scare from Washington in a downpour but were able to win on three Robbie Gould field goals. San Francisco held the Washington offense to 154 total yards.

Week 8: 49ers 51, Panthers 13

Offseason free agent signing Tevin Coleman made his presence felt against the Panthers, scoring four touchdowns, along with 118 yards from scrimmage. The 49ers also picked off Kyle Allen three times.

Week 9: 49ers 28, Cardinals 25

San Francisco was able to hold off a late-charging Cardinals squad to improve to 8-0. Jimmy Garoppolo had one of the best games of his career, completing 28 of 37 pass attempts for 317 yards and four touchdowns.

Week 10: Seahawks 27, 49ers 24

The 49ers finally met their match in an overtime loss to the Seahawks. San Francisco had trouble getting much done on the ground with 87 yards on 27 carries, and Jimmy Garoppolo was responsible for three giveaways.

Week 11: 49ers 36, Cardinals 26

Rebounding from its first loss of the season, San Francisco beat Arizona for the second time in three weeks. The 49ers struggled to get the ground game going, but Jimmy Garoppolo was 34-of-45 for 424 yards and four touchdowns.

Week 12: 49ers 37, Packers 8

The 49ers defense held Aaron Rodgers and Co. to only 198 yards in a big win over the NFC North leaders. George Kittle led all receivers with six catches for 129 yards and one score.

Week 13: Ravens 20, 49ers 17

In what was considered a possible Super Bowl preview at the time, San Francisco came up just short on a wet Sunday in Baltimore. Most of the offense on both sides was on the ground due to the conditions, and Raheem Mostert had 19 carries for 146 yards and one score. The Niners had trouble containing Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson on the ground, however, as he ran for 101 yards and one touchdown.

Week 14: 49ers 48, Saints 46

San Francisco came out on top at New Orleans in what might have been the best game of the 2019 season. Jimmy Garoppolo showed he could put the team on his back with 349 passing yards and four touchdowns. Midseason acquisition Emmanuel Sanders threw one touchdown and caught another, while tight end George Kittle made a key first down late in the game that helped put the 49ers in position to kick the game-winning field goal.

Week 15: Falcons 29, 49ers 22

San Francisco had a home letdown one week following a huge win at New Orleans. With just two seconds remaining, Julio Jones caught a 5-yard touchdown pass to put the Falcons in front. Jimmy Garoppolo was also held in check for most of the day, finishing with only 200 passing yards.

Week 16: 49ers 34, Rams 31

The 49ers eliminated L.A. from playoff contention on a 33-yard Robbie Gould field goal as time expired. Jimmy Garoppolo struggled with two interceptions, but he was picked up by the 49ers running game, which averaged 5.2 yards per carry in 23 attempts.

Week 17: 49ers 26, Seahawks 21

The NFC West title was at stake in Week 17 when the 49ers faced off against the Seahawks in a rematch of their classic Week 10 showdown. San Francisco held a 12-point lead in the fourth quarter after Raheem Mostert scored his second touchdown, but Russell Wilson brought Seattle back. On fourth-and-goal with 12 seconds remaining, tight end Jacob Hollister was stopped just short of the goal line to seal the San Francisco victory.

Divisional round: 49ers 27, Vikings 10

Minnesota shocked New Orleans in the wild-card round but couldn't repeat their magic at San Francisco. The 49ers dominated on the ground with 186 rushing yards, and the defense held the Vikings to only 147 total yards. Tevin Coleman led the 49ers with 22 carries for 105 yards and two scores.

Conference championship: 49ers 37, Packers 20

San Francisco had Green Bay's number for the second time, easily running over the Packers to win the NFC championship. Raheem Mostert had 29 carries for 220 yards and four touchdowns, and the 49ers defense forced three turnovers.
