Insider: Cowboys starter Dak Prescott 'still can't grip a football'

The Cowboys might ride backup QB Cooper Rush against the Eagles on Sunday because Dak Prescott "still can't grip a football," per Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network

"(He's) considered a long shot to be able to practice on Wednesday and play on Sunday," Rapoport said Monday on NFL Network.

The grip is the biggest hurdle in Prescott's recovery from a fractured right thumb, ultimately deciding when he plays.

Head coach Mike McCarthy doesn't want to push Prescott as it's imperative to complete a full week of practice.

After Dallas' 22-10 victory over the Rams on Sunday, owner Jerry Jones said Prescott would throw the football "a lot" this week. However, Prescott may not throw at all.

Rush implied he was told to prepare to start against Philadelphia.

"I think it's kind of business as usual," he said in a post-game news conference. "I don't have any updates."

Rush has played well, winning four consecutive games and becoming the 14th QB to win his first five NFL starts, per Sports Illustrated.

The Eagles are the only undefeated team in the NFL and boast a top-five defense and offense. Sunday's game is in Philadelphia, where Eagles fans enjoy raising the intensity level.
