Insider: NFL GM thinks four-time league MVP is in play for Raiders

The Raiders acquiring Packers QB Aaron Rodgers via trade is becoming a more realistic possibility.

"If Tom Brady is in San Francisco, I think Rodgers goes to Vegas," an unnamed NFL GM told The Washington Post's Jason La Canfora.

Brady is Las Vegas' top choice since he played in Josh McDaniels' system for 13 seasons in New England.

Despite his connection with the Raiders HC, Brady hasn't announced he's coming back for year 24, and if he does, several teams will line up for the impending free agent.

Brady going to the 49ers seems improbable since they have emerging rookie QB Brock Purdy, but Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer isn't writing them off as a Brady suitor.

"The 49ers sort of left that (Brady) door cracked open," Breer said Friday on "The Herd with Colin Cowherd."

If Brady returns and San Francisco is interested, he may choose them over Las Vegas since they have better Super Bowl prospects, making Rodgers, a four-time league MVP, the next option.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the likelihood of a trade keeps increasing.

The Raiders have the No.7 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, something they could use in a deal centered around Rodgers. Rodgers' contract presents an obstacle since two years remain with $108.75 million guaranteed, per Schefter.

Las Vegas has $22.3M in cap space, per OverTheCap, but it's moving on from starting QB Derek Carr. Trading or releasing him before Feb. 15 creates $29.3-34.5M in cap space.

Landing Rodgers is tricky but worthwhile because of his chemistry with Raiders star WR and former Packers Davante Adams. The pair connected for 69 passing TDS in eight seasons together.
