Insider proposes intriguing draft scenario that nets Bears a massive haul
Last year, the Chicago Bears turned the No. 1 overall pick into 2023 first- and second-round picks, a 2024 first-rounder, a 2025 second-rounder and star receiver D.J. Moore.
General manager Ryan Poles could conceivably get even more for the top pick this year with generational quarterback Caleb Williams sitting at the top of the draft board, which is exactly what NBC Sports’ Peter King, who was one of the first to report the Bears were getting Moore in the trade with Carolina last year, believes could happen come April.
“I suppose the Bears are going to trade the top pick,” King wrote. “I know nothing, but that seems to be the way the wind is blowing. What I say: The Bears could keep Justin Fields (and should), and trade the first pick down once or twice, and build the kind of supporting cast a team needs to contend.”
In King’s hypothetical scenario, he has the Bears trading the No. 1 pick to the Washington Commanders for the No. 2 pick plus a second-round pick in 2024 and a first-round pick in 2025.
He then has Chicago trading that No. 2 pick to the Atlanta Falcons, who would then draft either North Carolina QB Drake May or LSU QB Jayden Daniels, for the No. 8 overall pick plus a 2024 second-rounder and first- and second-round picks in 2025.
“Imagine moving from 1 to 8 and ending up with this draft haul: The eighth and ninth (their own) overall picks in Round 1 this year, second-round picks from Washington and Atlanta this year and three first-round picks and two second-round picks in 2025,” King stated. “For moving down seven picks in the first round, the Bears could end up with nine picks in the first two rounds of the next two drafts. Instant infrastructure.”
If King’s proposed deals did happen, the Bears would have five picks within the top 73 selections and seven picks in the first four rounds of this year’s draft, plus five picks, including three first-rounders, in the top 64 of the 2025 draft.
