Insider: Raiders' Clelin Ferrell, Johnathan Abram on trading block

According to ESPN NFL Insider Jeremy Fowler, the Raiders are willing to trade two former first-round draft picks, defensive end Clelin Ferrell and safety Johnathan Abram.

Ferrell and Abram have both struggled to reach their full potential in Las Vegas. Neither has made a Pro Bowl in four seasons.

Ferrell has seen his role diminish, playing on 34 percent of snaps in 2022. Abram had a breakout season in 2021 with a career high in tackles (116). However, he hasn't built off of this momentum. He has a 47.6 Pro Football Focus grade, ranking him 62nd among 86 safeties.

Both are on the final year of their rookie contract, per Spotrac. It makes sense to trade them so the Raiders can reel in multiple draft picks. The 1-4 team could use these assets to forge a new direction.

Also, both are leftovers from the tumultous era led by former general manger Mike Mayock and head coach Jon Gruden.

It's "no secret" that first-year general manager Dave Zeigler wants to trade players from the previous regime, per Fowler.

One NFC executive told Fowler, "The Raiders are trying to start anew with players who fit their personality."

Perhaps trading Ferrell and Abram will be the first domino to fall since he plans to clean house. As a result, Zeigler will make more moves reshaping the future of the franchise.
