Insider references Tom Brady to shoot down Mac Jones-Bill Belichick theory

One in-the-know individual believes the relationship between Tom Brady and New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick shows quarterback Mac Jones can still thrive with the Patriots.

Per Ricky Doyle of NESN, Patriots insider Tom E. Curran noted during an edition of the NBC Sports Boston "Early Edition" program that Brady and Belichick weren't always the best of friends as they guided the franchise to six Super Bowl championships from 2000 through the 2019 season.

"The back half of the Patriots dynasty was comprised by the greatest head coach of all time and the greatest quarterback of all time not really liking each other a whole hell of a lot," Curran claimed. "Tom Brady once said to me in 2016: 'Weirdest guy I’ve ever met. It’s what I’ve been living for 16 years.' And he spent three more years of it."

It was first reported this past January that Jones annoyed Belichick when the 24-year-old contacted people outside of the organization for coaching when New England's offense was struggling during the 2022 season. Subsequent rumors about Belichick allegedly shopping Jones hovered over the club throughout the offseason, but the 2021 first-round draft pick now seems cemented atop the depth chart ahead of summer training-camp sessions.

Curran insisted Jones and Belichick don't need to send each other holiday greeting cards to achieve success together in New England.

"It doesn’t matter," Curran continued during the segment. "The guys that (Belichick) liked were Cam Newton and Jimmy Garoppolo. So, what’s that tell you? It doesn’t matter. There’s no come-to-Jesus meeting. There’s no embrace. There’s no getting into Bill’s head and channeling whether he personally likes (Jones) or not. Get out of seventh grade for a minute."

For what it's worth, Brady said as recently as last week he will "always" view his relationship with Belichick "as positive" regardless of what did or didn't occur behind the scenes over the several seasons that preceded the signal-caller signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a free agent in March 2020. Jones may one day offer similar comments if he earns even one championship ring playing under Belichick before the coach rides off into the sunset of retirement.
