Insider reveals update on Davante Adams, Patrick Surtain II and others ahead of trade deadline

The NFL trade deadline could pass by with a whimper, according to a report by The Athletic's Dianna Russini.

Potential targets including Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II, Giants running back Saquon Barkley and Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams are expected to remain with their teams. The same goes for Titans running back Derrick Henry and wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, as well as Panthers edge rusher Brian Burns.

Russini also notes teams that could use the trade deadline to bolster their rosters, including the Chiefs, Bengals, Rams, Falcons and Texans, "appear to be standing pat based on multiple conversations around the league."

The usual suspects, the 49ers and Eagles, are pursuing trades, and the most intriguing names available include Broncos wide receivers Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton and Commanders edge rushers Chase Young and Montez Sweat.

Connecting the dots in Russini's report. one potential trade could be Philadelphia making a move for Denver linebacker Josey Jewell.

"Denver is listening to offers on ... linebacker Josey Jewell," wrote Russini, later adding Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is "poking around at linebacker."

Russini notes offers are expected to improve after Sunday's action. Teams on the fence about making a trade could be persuaded to make one based on Week 8's results while sellers might be more inclined to accelerate rebuilds with losses.

Most of the big names are apparently off the table, but offers can still improve, making teams reconsider their stances. With the success San Francisco and Philadelphia have had the past two seasons after swinging for the fences on big trades, it would be surprising if the league ultimately takes a conservative approach at this year's deadline. However, based on Russini's intel, it won't be unexpected.
