Insider suggests perfect side-gig for Bill Belichick if he doesn’t coach in 2024

With just two head-coaching vacancies left and neither the Seattle Seahawks nor Washington Commanders expressing any interest in former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, the six-time Super Bowl winner may be forced into taking a gap year.

But just because he won’t be on the sidelines in 2024, it doesn’t mean Belichick will just fade into obscurity.

In fact, there might be a perfect distraction for Belichick to use to fill his time next season as he waits for another head-coaching opportunity to open up in 2025: A one-year foray into television.

NBC Sports’ Peter King recently mentioned Belichick, the third-winningest coach in NFL history, could possibly team up with close friend and recently retired Alabama coach Nick Saban to produce their version of the “Manningcast,” an idea that was King stated was initially brought to his attention by NFL Network’s Rich Eisen.

“Find a network to stream it on — maybe on a CBS, Fox or NBC streaming service, or maybe as another stream for the Thursday night Amazon Prime game,” King wrote. “Belichick, if he wants to coach in 2025 at age 73 — and if someone will have him — could use a little image rehab.”

Belichick and Saban actually have a good rapport, having done several projects together for NFL Films and other various ventures over the years.

King points out that such a show would allow him to showcase his dry humor while showing there’s more to him than the brash, curmudgeonly exterior those around the league are used to seeing.

Perhaps humanizing arguably the biggest villain in the NFL will do Belichick some good and possibly entice a head coach-needy team next offseason to take a chance on him.

“America, and NFL owners, know him as dour, sour and imperious — not great traits in modern-day coaching,” King added. “Particularly with a 29-39 record in his last four seasons as coach. He can actually be glib and clever, in his way.”
