Insider suggests Raiders will move on from All-Pro

Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs has regressed after a career year in 2022, so it wouldn't be a surprise if the Raiders let him walk this offseason.

ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler suggested the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could pursue the First-Team All-Pro, who's averaging a career-low 3.3 yards per carry.

"His game has perked up in recent weeks, but that aforementioned average of 3.3 yards per carry could affect his bottom line," wrote Fowler. "Jacobs is still a lead back who's perfect for a team dedicated to the run. Tampa Bay is just that and needs a decisive runner to complement Rachaad White."

Tampa Bay is second to last in the NFL in rushing yards (78.1), and White has only rushed for 429 yards and three TDs on 132 carries. Signing a power back like Jacobs — who led the NFL in rushing in 2022 (1,653 yards) — would make sense.

Jacobs skipped training camp and the preseason before signing his franchise tender (a one-year, $11.79M deal). Clearly, the holdout created rust. The 25-year-old has only rushed for 100 yards or more once this season.

Raiders interim HC Antonio Pierce insists he will turn things around and emphasize the ground attack in the second half of the season.

"One of our messages earlier in the week that [we] told the team was that we needed to start to impose our will," Pierce said following a Week 10 victory over the New York Jets. "The only way you can do that is by one of two things — stopping the run on defense and running the ball on offense."

Still, it's unclear if Las Vegas (5-5) will promote Pierce and interim general manager Champ Kelly. Since massive changes could be coming, Jacobs must raise his game to solidify his future with the franchise.
