Insider: 'There's a measure of pessimism around the Lamar Jackson contract-extension negotiations'

According to a report from Mark Maske of The Washington Post, all indications are pointing to Balitmore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson playing out the 2022 season without a contract extension.

In an offseason full of mega-contract extensions being dished out to high-profile quarterbacks, the latest came at the start of September with Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos. After being traded over from the Seattle Seahawks in March, Wilson and the Broncos inked a five-year, $245 million contract extension on Sept. 1.

Some believed that with Wilson's new deal in place, it was only a matter of days before Jackson would get his next big pay day, but so far, nothing has been reported. For what it's worth, when asked about the lack of movement on an extension for the quarterback on Tuesday, Ravens star tight end Mark Andrews said he didn't feel that it would be a distraction.

In mid-August, Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young made a bold claim regarding the 2019 NFL MVP, saying that he could be "the greatest player in the history of the game," but was being "held back" by the Ravens. Jackson was limited to a career-low 12 games last season due to an ankle injury and finished the year with 2,882 passing yards, 16 passing touchdowns and 13 interceptions, while adding 133 carries for 767 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
