As of Tuesday, the Dallas Cowboys were impressed enough with the workout of La'el Collins that a source told CowboysSI.com that there was an agreement for Collins to come "home'' to his original NFL team.
Later, Collins himself - an avid fisherman who literally still owns his house on Lake Lewisville, not far from the Cowboys' headquarters at The Star - posted on his IG account the word "home,'' with a number of his old/new teammates chiming in to congratulate him.
But suddenly, on Wednesday morning ... maybe a glitch?
Jane Slater of NFL Network at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday reported that the done deal isn't yet "done.''
There is no suggestion from Slater that the agreement has crumbled. Rather, this seems like it might be a paperwork issue - though Collins' behavioral history, including his long-standing involvement in the NFL's substance abuse program, merits mention here.
Collins started 71 of 74 games at left guard and right tackle for the Cowboys from 2015 to 2021. The Cowboys let him go over financial and behavioral concerns, and he joined the Cincinnati Bengals.
But he's been available again most of this year, and with Dallas having concerns about its offensive line with left guard Tyler Smith dealing with a torn plantar fascia in his left foot, Collins figures as a depth piece. ... assuming he ends up "figuring'' as was planned on Tuesday.
