NFL players usually don’t get to pick where they will play. While they grow up fans of specific teams like the Jacksonville Jaguars, the franchise they play for may be far from where they first saw themselves playing pro football.
However, there are certain players who somehow luck out. For example, Gabe Davis was really happy when the Jaguars came knocking to get him from Buffalo to the Sunshine State.
Gabe Davis wants to go to the Jacksonville Jaguars because of its location
The former Buffalo Bills wideout was pretty candid about revealing his rationale when it comes to joining the Jaguars. He told reporters during his introductory press conference that the main reason he wanted to come to Jacksonville was the fact that the team was in Florida.
Per Jaguars Wire’s Adam Stites:
“As soon as 12 o’clock hit, it all just started going and going. As soon as I heard Jacksonville, I was like ‘Thank God, they called. Thank God,’” Davis told reporters at a press conference Thursday. “I wanted to come back to Florida, I wanted to be around guys that I knew, a coast that I loved, and the team is great. Shoot, we could never beat them.
“Came here and as soon as they sent it in … boom, I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m a Jaguar man.’ A pretty easy decision.”
It’s hard to argue against his logic. Compared to the tundra-like conditions of Buffalo, NY, Jacksonville offers more reasonable weather the entire year. Being next to the ocean can calm the mind, and that is something a professional NFL player could use every once in a while.
It also helps that the team is looking great with Trevor Lawrence and Doug Pederson leading the charge.
Predicting how well Gabe Davis will play in Jacksonville
Davis wasn’t WR1 the moment he started his NFL career in Buffalo, always playing second-fiddle to Stefon Diggs. However, he’s put up great numbers during his time with the team.
Through four seasons, he caught for 2730 yards and 27 TDs while averaging 16.7 yards a catch and 42.7 yards per game. Last season, he tallied 746 receiving yards and seven TD catches.
With Calvin Ridley out of Jacksonville , he has the opportunity to compete with Christian Kirk for the WR1 position. Since he has a nickname as eye-catching as Big Game Gabe, it wouldn’t be weird to think that he’ll be Lawrence’s first choice once the 2024 season starts in earnest.
