The Jacksonville Jaguars on Wednesday officially announced a return to the teal version of the team’s primary home jersey, which the NFL organization donned for its first 16 years as a franchise.

The jersey change amounts to something of a capper to an organization-wide overhaul set in motion this offseason, franchise-altering moves that included changes in the front office and the hiring of Urban Meyer as head coach.

The Jaguars built up anticipation to the big news with a series of cryptic tweets on the team’s official feed. If 21,000 retweets were made of the below post, the return to teal would commence, the Jags indicated. The post was retweeted over 27,000 times since Tuesday.

On Wednesday, the Jaguars made the switch back to teal official with a hype video shared on the team’s official social media channels.

The announcement was then formalized with a statement from head equipment manager Jimmy Luck.

“We’ve heard the fans loud and clear,”  Luck said, per The Florida Times-Union.

“As the only team in the NFL that wears teal, we know what this color means to our organization, the 904 (area code) and our entire fanbase. Teal inspires great memories of some of our franchise’s greatest moments.

“Making the switch to teal as our primary uniform color allows us to celebrate that history while kicking off a new era of Jaguars football.”

The Jaguars switched from teal to black during Shad Khan’s first season as owner, and the new color scheme was worn for the first time during Week 4 of the 2012 season. Before the change to black, the Jaguars played in teal 114 times and posted a 64-50 record.
