Could Tebow return to the NFL? Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

As everything else was breaking around the NFL this past week, reports that Tim Tebow worked out for the Jacksonville Jaguars surprisingly flew under the radar.

What made this even more interesting is the fact that the former quarterback worked out at tight end mere months after giving up his ill-fated baseball career.

In talking about the former Heisman winner and Denver Broncos first-round pick, Jaguars co-owner Tony Khan confirmed that Tebow had in fact worked out for the team recently.

“Tim has definitely come in and worked out. So beyond that, I can’t say too much, but Tim has come in and worked out as a tight end,” Khan told Bleacher Report. “That’s not a position that we’ve seen him play, but it’s a position he’s been practicing at with us.”

Tebow back in the NFL?

A first-round pick of the Broncos back in 2010, Tebow has not suited up in a regular-season NFL game since 2012. In fact, he last started a game under center back in 2011.

Since then, the former Heisman winner with Florida has tried his hand in both broadcasting and on the baseball diamond as a minor leaguer with the New York Mets organization.

Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 236 pounds during his playing days, Tebow doesn’t necessarily have the height or build to play tight end in the NFL. Even then, it’s an interesting scenario to look at. He played under new Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer with the Florida Gators from 2006-09, putting up some dazzling numbers in the process.

The 33-year-old might be a bit past his prime. This could also be somewhat of a long shot. Even then, he previously displayed the athleticism that made him a first-round pick in the NFL Draft.

As for the Jaguars’ interest in Tebow, there’s not much to look at when it comes to tight end in Duval. Jacksonville just made former Ohio State star Luke Farrell a fifth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Outside of that, James O’Shaughnessy is their leading returning pass-catcher from the tight end position with 28 receptions a season ago.
