Jaguars owner Shad Khan praises his fans

Jacksonville Jaguars fans executed plenty of patience from the 2021 season to Week 13 of the 2022 season. The Jaguars finished 3-14 in Trevor Lawrence’s rookie season. That season was marred when Urban Meyer was fired in his first season with the team. The beginning of head coach Doug Pederson’s tenure wasn’t looking promising after their 40-14 loss to the Detroit Lions on December 4th which gave the team a 4-8 record. Jaguars owner Shad Khan recently praised fans for sticking out the rest of the season.

The Jaguars would become the hottest team in the NFL between Week 14 and the beginning of their Divisional Round game against the Kansas City Chiefs. They won five straight games to win the AFC South and returned from down 27-0 to the Los Angeles Chargers in the Wild Card round.

According to the Jaguars website, Shad Khan said he was impressed with how Jaguars fans kept their composure when they were down big in the playoffs:

“We hadn’t had a primetime game in my ownership,” Khan said. “We hadn’t earned it. We didn’t deserve it. Here, we earned it. We deserve it. So, we get two in a row. Both of them are packed, including standing-room only tickets. Then to see the fans at both of the games hanging in. We’re down 27-0 and no one leaves …

“That shows really the enthusiasm, the belief the fans had. I know it made a huge difference for Trevor. He looked up and saw no one had left. There was a huge vote of confidence in him.”

Their fans’ patience could be awarded bigger gains in Lawrence’s third season.
