Jaguars to hire former Eagles coach Doug Pederson as head coach

Former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson will be the next coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Pederson, 54, spent five seasons with the Eagles, leading the team to a 42-37-1 record during his tenure. The high point was a victory in Super Bowl LII at the end of his second season with the team, but Pederson was fired after the Eagles finished the 2020 campaign with a 4-11-1 record.

In Jacksonville, Pederson will be tasked with the development of 2021 first overall pick Trevor Lawrence, who threw 12 touchdowns and a league-leading 17 interceptions in his first season as the Jaguars' starting quarterback.

The Jaguars fired Urban Meyer for cause in December after a series of scandals and a 2-11 start to the season. The team finished 3-14 and is set to pick first overall in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Prior to his time with the Eagles, Pederson spent three seasons as the offensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs.
