Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence helping Travis Etienne learn WR position

Jacksonville Jaguars coach Urban Meyer has made several curious and literally costly decisions since accepting the gig, including using a first-round draft pick on running back Travis Etienne and then giving Etienne reps at wide receiver.

Etienne is accepting help from someone he knows quite well.

Per Nick Shook of the NFL's website, Etienne explained in a video he shared on his Twitter account that quarterback and former Clemson teammate Trevor Lawrence, the first selection from this year's draft, is acting as somewhat of a mentor as the ball-carrier works on his craft.

"Now I am just like kind of learning real receiver routes, and having Trev here to go just do simple things as run routes outside and just kind of go over it by ourselves, (it) has really been great for me and really helped me just speed up that process," Etienne said about playing receiver.

A team using a first-round asset on a running back is almost always seen as a gamble in the modern NFL, where the position is devalued compared to those linked with passing attacks. If Meyer's ultimate plan is to develop Etienne into a weapon similar to Alvin Kamara of the New Orleans Saints, however, observers might be saying the Jaguars landed two offensive cornerstones in this year's draft roughly five years down the road.
