Jaire Alexander apologized for calling former Packers teammate a scrub
Jaire Alexander was obviously feeling himself after his Green Bay Packers beat their arch-rivals, the Chicago Bears, 28-19, on Sunday afternoon.
Alexander did give up a few big plays but he also made a few equally as big. His biggest contribution to Green Bay's win was an interception of Justin Fields, but the former first-round corner also added seven tackles (including two tackles for loss) onto his scorecard.
Not surprisingly, especially for a cornerback who is known to be bombastic, Alexander talked some smack after the game. What was surprising, though, was the fact that he went after Chicago wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown, who burnt him 56 yards midway through the second quarter and generally had a pretty productive day.
"Man, he a scrub. I can’t believe I let him catch that on me. But hat’s off to him because he did make a good catch," Alexander said after the game when asked his thoughts on ESB's catch.
Green Bay's top cornerback continued on a bit of a tirade, with his ire still focused on St. Brown. His interception, perhaps not ironically, came on a route St. Brown had run.
"I knew it was coming. One thing about the receiver that I got the pick on, you're going to know when he's about to breaking down his route. So I already knew it. I envisioned it. I was telepathic because I seen it before it happened," Alexander explained. "He's just not as quick as some. He's just kind of slow with it. He's real slow. So it was just easy."
That's quite an attack on a receiver who's no more than a role player for Chicago. Making Alexander's tirade even more eyebrow-raising is the fact that ESB is a former Packers receiver. The Packers drafted St. Brown in the sixth round of the 2018 draft. Alexander was taken in the first round of that same draft, so the two do have quite a connection.
All is well that ends well, though. Alexander's shots at ESB were widely reported and they certainly made their way back to the Chicago wide receiver, but he took it in stride.
Perhaps ESB is just that good of a guy. The fact that he got an apology from Alexander probably didn't hurt things, either.
