Jakobi Meyers addresses unforgettable folly against Raiders

New Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers had an opportunity to address the blunder he committed as a member of the Patriots in a game against his new team, the Raiders.

During a Week 15 loss to the Raiders, the former Patriots WR had an unforgettable folly. On the game's final play, he lobbed an errant lateral, intercepted by Raiders DE Chandler Jones, who returned it for a walk-off touchdown.

Even though it was an embarrassing moment for Meyers, he had a good sense of humor when he answered a question about the play during a Thursday news conference.

"That was a humbling experience," Meyers said. "As a man, as a football player, that was just tough. It really hurt me. In the moment my heart was broken. But days after, just seeing how guys rallied around me, it built me up as a person. Now I know, whenever one of my teammates mess up, who I want to be in that situation. Like how I want to help them, what type of love, what type of support I want to give. As far as growth, it taught me a lot about myself and how I want to help people."

That's a pretty mature response from Meyers and a great example of taking something positive from an unfortunate situation.

The Raiders hope Meyers becomes a complement to six-time Pro Bowler Davante Adams. They signed the 26-year-old wideout to a three-year, $33M deal with $21M guaranteed.

Meyers fits Las Vegas HC Josh McDaniels' system, having played for him from 2019-21 when McDaniels served as New England OC. Meyers had his best season in 2021, recording career highs in receptions (83) and receiving yards (866).

His success with McDaniels and the prospect of playing with an experienced QB in nine-year veteran Jimmy Garoppolo likely attracted Meyers to Las Vegas.

He should be a solid addition to the Raiders, as long as he doesn't repeat his Week 15 mistake.
