Javonte Williams credits play-clock-counting Broncos fans for win over Texans

The Denver Broncos earned their first victory of the season on Sunday, knocking off the Houston Texans, 16-9.

The victory didn't come easy for the Broncos, who found themselves trailing the Texans by a field goal early in the fourth quarter.

While a Russell Wilson 22-yard touchdown pass to Eric Saubert gave Denver the lead for good, running back Javonte Williams gave some of the credit to another source: the Broncos faithful.

After clock management issues a week ago against the Seattle Seahawks, Denver fell victim to another delay of game penalty on Sunday, costing them an opportunity at a field-goal try. Broncos fans responded by counting, out loud, the numbers of the play clock as it winded down.

Williams believes the crowd's jeer helped the Broncos get going and ultimately come away with the win. He even suggested that the countdown should become a mainstay at Empower Field.

Williams led the Broncos in rushing Sunday, finishing the day with 75 yards off 15 carries. After securing 11 catches last week against the Seahawks, the 22-year-old managed just one catch for 10 yards against Houston.

Williams has rushed for 118 yards off 22 attempts through two games, averaging 5.4 yards per carry.
