Jay Glazer: Steelers' Mitchell Trubisky will 'be the starter here' over Kenny Pickett

Pittsburgh Steelers fans hyped to watch rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett in action during this past Saturday's preseason opener against the Seattle Seahawks were likely overjoyed when they witnessed Pickett connect on 13-of-15 passes for 95 yards and two touchdowns in the 32-25 victory.

Any of those same individuals who may have believed Pickett could still have a chance to win the starting job over free-agent signing Mitchell Trubisky have since had their hopes dashed on multiple occasions.

One insider remarked earlier in the week that career backup Mason Rudolph is "still the second-string quarterback" between Trubisky and Pickett on the Steelers' depth chart. On Wednesday, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, one of the most respected NFL insiders in the business, made it clear while speaking from the club's practice session that Trubisky has unofficially already won the gig.

"People still think there might be a quarterback controversy here. There's not. Mitch Trubisky. That's the guy," Glazer reported, as noted by Josh Carney of Steelers Depot. Glazer added that the Steelers "do love Kenny Pickett" at this point of the first-year pro's development:

Trubisky, who spent last season as a backup with the Buffalo Bills after he failed to land a second contract with the Chicago Bears, has routinely worked with Pittsburgh's first-team offense since springtime workouts and was listed as QB1 on the club's first depth chart of the summer.

"This will be Mitch Trubisky's team," Glazer continued during his comments. "When you talk to people around here, they have so much confidence in him. And I think that's one of the things that, you know, Mitch has gotten beaten up in his career. So to have a guy now where they fill his confidence up, they certainly think they can win with Mitch Trubisky.

"And I think that there's a lot of people out there rooting for Mitch Trubisky. This is Mitch's team. He'll be the starting quarterback in Pittsburgh this year, but they got their future also in Kenny Pickett."

Trubisky, Pickett and the rest of the Steelers will soon hit the road to play at the Jacksonville Jaguars this coming Saturday.
