Jerry Jones indicates Cowboys thinking about Dak Prescott's successor

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones indicated he's thinking about life after Dak Prescott, saying Dallas may select another quarterback in the 2023 NFL Draft.

According to The Athletic's Jon Machota, Jones is attending the Senior Bowl, so he might not be bluffing.

Senior Bowl QBs include Tennessee's Hendon Hooker and TCU's Max Duggan. Hooker posted the FBS's top QBR (89.5) in 2022, leading Tennessee to its first victory over Alabama in 15 years. Duggan was a 2022 Heisman finalist and carried TCU to its first College Football Playoff title game appearance.

Having either prospect would be an asset because Dallas can develop a player to replace Prescott if his slide continues.

Prescott threw a career-high 15 interceptions in 12 starts this season, which tied for the league lead. His high interception total is becoming a trend. Over the past four seasons, Prescott has thrown 10 or more picks three times.

Although Prescott has been the Dallas starter for seven years, elite organizations, like the Eagles, draft QBs when they sense a decline.

For example, the divisional rival selected Jalen Hurts in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft after Carson Wentz's passer rating dipped from 102.2 in 2018 to 93.1 in 2019.

It turned out to be a great move because Wentz's passer rating dropped to 72.8 the following year. Afterward, Philadelphia traded him to the Colts, and Hurts replaced him, leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl LVII appearance this season.

Perhaps Dallas envies Philadelphia's success and considers the same move, making the Cowboys' future at QB an intriguing offseason storyline.
