The NFL is adding more international games in the years to come, meaning more teams may have to play outside of the United States and give up home games in the process. That is something Jerry Jones does not want the Dallas Cowboys to have to do.

The Cowboys owner said he would be “reluctant” to give up a home game to play internationally, citing the team’s high attendance and strong fan interest. If the Cowboys did have to go abroad, however, there is one specific city he would be okay with.

“When we aren’t playing here, I want to be in Mexico City. Period,” Jones said, via Nick Harris of the team’s official website. “Mexico City is good and close. If I’m going international, I want to play in Mexico City. Mainly because of our fans and our following and the affinity that we get here back home in the United States.

“When we go there on any basis, we increase the affinity for the Cowboys with our Hispanic fan base in the United States. That’s where we want to be.”

Jones may not necessarily have much say in the matter, though his stance does make sense. The Cowboys routinely draw over 90,000 fans for home games, and no team would want to give that up, especially with the team performing so well at the moment.

The Cowboys have not played an international game since 2014, when they faced the Jacksonville Jaguars in London as the visiting team.
