Jets' Adam Gase says he won't bench QB Sam Darnold

New York Jets third-year quarterback Sam Darnold backed head coach Adam Gase after Gang Green suffered a humiliating 36-7 loss at the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

Gase repaid the favor while speaking with reporters on Monday.

"He just needs to keep playing," Gase said, per Rich Cimini of ESPN. "He needs to keep playing and keep fixing the mistakes that are made and really emphasize the things he's doing really well, and just keep building on those."

One reason Gase might be sticking with Darnold is that veteran Joe Flacco is still recovering from an April neck surgery and could remain inactive through Thursday night's game against the Denver Broncos. Mike White, an unproven 25-year-old, is currently behind Darnold on the depth chart.

Darnold tossed three interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns, in the blowout loss to the Colts. He has completed 61.5% of his passes for three TDs and four interceptions.

Darnold was also responsible for a play of the week candidate in the loss at Indianapolis:
