Jets' Carl Lawson, Zane Lewis suffer season-ending injuries

The New York Jets had an absolutely brutal joint practice with the Green Bay Packers on Thursday.

According to Rich Cimini of ESPN, Jets defensive end and top free-agent acquisition Carl Lawson has been lost for the 2021 season due to a ruptured left Achilles tendon. The news is hardly surprising, as Lawson was carted off the field during a red-zone period on Thursday and underwent an MRI for what was initially believed to be a serious setback.

Additionally, Jets safety Zane Lewis will miss all of the upcoming campaign after he tore his patella tendon and sprained his MCL Thursday.

Lawson's injury will understandably steal the headlines, though, as he put pen to paper on a three-year contract that could be worth up to $45 million to join the Jets in March. The 26-year-old originally entered the NFL when the Cincinnati Bengals selected him in the fourth round of the 2017 draft, and he spent his first four seasons with that franchise.

Lawson has recorded 20 sacks across 51 career regular-season games and, per Cimini, was "dominant" in New York training-camp practices before Thursday's development.
